Welcome to our Fab Top 5 posts which happens every first Friday of every month. The Top 5 consists of 5 women here in the Atlanta area that have different views about a variety of topics. This month we are tackling Summer Time. I will be talking about 5 ways you can stay cool this summer (and cut down on that light bill)
Ice Cream keeps you cool
So I am trying to lose weight and it’s not been going well. When I got offered the opportunity to try out some Ice cream from weight Watchers my first thought was….this is going to taste like diet food. I don’t know how this will turn out. Come with me as I run to the store……..don’t worry I didn’t stick my head in the freezer…trust me I wanted too.
I was frustrated because there were so many to choose from but I ended up picking these
The Peanut Butter one was awesome so awesome I only ate one the kids ate the rest *big sigh* Ice cream is a great way to cool off during the summer. I visit Dunkin Donuts often and get the kid one (watching my weight *side eye*) one scoop is enough to cool you off for a little while. Slushies and Sonics happy hour is another way to cool you right on down
Fans and Ceiling Fans
Old school keeps my light bill in the summer below $150. Old school being fans and ceiling fans. I have 3 ceiling fans in my home one in the den, one in the hallway and one in the master bedroom. I turn on all of them at night and put a fan in my kids bedroom. We live in the country where trees are plentiful. So in the summer I keep all lights off, turn on those fans, and keep my blinds closed. The temp in my home stays around 72-75 on most days. That’s with no air on. I only turn my air on if I have company or the temp rises above 80. I am not a fan of high light bills so stay cool by going old school
Cook outside under the shade
I do not turn on my stove in the house often during the summer. We grill food on Sunday’s and make it stretch for most of the week. That way we aren’t cooking a lot and the stove doesn’t make the house hot. If I need to use the oven I will turn on the air for a little while but only during the time I am cooking. Utilize your outdoor space when it comes to cooking that way the inside of your house stays cool and you can have a fun water fight outside with the kids while the barbecue is going here are some meats we cooked a few weeks ago. I sat under my umbrella with the sprinkler going under the tree with my sparkling lemonade.
Fix yourself a iced drink …if you are from the south sweet tea with pineapples will do the trick. Recipe here.
Take cool showers
You can take a shower using your very own DIY Peppermint soap
During the summers I have OCD I take about 2-3 showers a day..it’s hot and I don’t like to feel sticky or sweaty. A peppermint soap will cool you down quite nicely.
