Cooking With The Kids: Pizza Rolls

My mini sous chefs have taken over my kitchen again and this time they are making Pizza Rolls.  We like getting creative in the kitchen and for us buying frozen and eating out takes away from the magic we can make in the kitchen.  And let’s not forget the memories that we make because those are priceless.  Pizza rolls are a favorite in my house.  The smoky pepperoni with the warm gooey cheese all surrounded by a crispy flakey crust sends our taste buds into heaven.  It’s really that good and even better when you pair it with your favorite marinara sauce.  The best part of this meal is that the kids are able to do it themselves, and for them the independence of making meals make them feel special.  They are great as an afterschool snack, an appetizer, or you can make a meal of it.  So keep reading to see how you can make this delicious treat as well.

First place your egg roll wrapper in front of you in a diagonal.  Lay out the pepperoni slices going across the center of the egg roll wrapper.  Place the cheese stick on top of the pepperoni slices.  Wet the edges of the egg roll wrapper with water.

Sprinkle oregano on top of the pepperoni slices and cheese.  Fold in the center edges.

Fold the corner of the egg roll wrapper closes to you over the pepperoni slices and cheese and continue to roll tightly until completed.

Fry the pizza rolls in oil heated to 375 degrees for 2 minutes.  I used a deep fryer, but you can also pan fry on the stove.  Just be sure to use a thermometer to make sure the oil reaches the desired temperature.

Once out of the fryer place on a pan lined with paper towels to help drain the excess oil.

Then all you have to do is eat them alongside your favorite marinara sauce.

Pizza Rolls

Ingredients:

Egg roll wrappers

Pepperoni slices

Mozzarella string cheese

Dried oregano

Oil for frying

Marinara sauce

Directions:

Lay pepperoni slices out in the middle of the egg roll wrapper.  Lay the mozzarella string cheese on top of the pepperoni slices.  Sprinkle with oregano.

Wet the edges of the wrapper.  Fold in the sides were the cheese is at.  Fold the egg roll wrapper closest to you over the cheese and pepperoni slices and then roll it.

Heat oil to 375 degrees F.  Fry in oil for about 2 minutes each.  Drain on paper towels and serve with marinara sauce.
