DIY Christmas Gifts: Adorable Presents You’d Actually Want to Receive

DIY Christmas gift

If you want to add a personal touch to your gift giving this year, you might want to incorporate some DIY gifts, and one way to do this is with a gift arrangement. They’re perfect for every level of DIYer because they can include homemade products, purchased products or a combination, and they can still be tailored specifically for your recipient.

The packaging of your gift can really enhance its appeal, so think outside the box — or the basket. Traditional baskets are nice, but they can be a bit boring. Choosing a container that can be reused after the contents are gone is a great, useful way to highlight the gift.

Here are a few ideas to give you a head start toward the perfect DIY gift for everyone on your list:

Food Gifts

Food baskets are about as traditional as you can get. Baked goods, homemade candies and fruitcakes have held a special place in holiday tradition since the beginning of time. Instead of the familiar staples this year, though, how about adding a twist to the old food basket?

A pasta basket can provide a modern variation of this old-fashioned food fare. Include such items as gourmet sauces, home baked artisan bread, a garlic spread and maybe some unique veggie pasta.

For an extra special treat, pair it with a distinctive bottle of wine. Choose an attractive bread basket or a wine bucket container, seal it in a shrink wrap bag tied with a big red bow — and voila! You have an elegant gift, suitable for even the most discerning palate.

Food gifts can be built to please anyone on your list — herbivore, omnivore or just plain picky — since it’s created specifically for that person. Best of all, if you know them well, you can’t miss with this one because everyone has to eat.

Pampering Gifts

Who doesn’t love to be pampered? How about putting together some favorite bath goodies? If you’re willing to step out a bit from the ordinary, try some easy recipes for fun products you can make yourself.

For instance, a cute soap mold, melt-able glycerin soap and a bit of castor oil will give you a natural soap that is creamy, bubbly and good for the skin. A few drops of yours or the recipient’s favorite scent will make it a winner whenever bath time rolls around.

But don’t stop there. Add some homemade bath salts, a scented candle and fun fizzy balls, and you have an all-out spa experience for that special someone. By using more masculine fragrances such as a frankincense and myrrh combo, you can create a macho, man-spa gift as well.

If you aren’t comfortable with a completely DIY approach, purchase some favorite products and assemble them in a cleverly appropriate container. A big fluffy bath towel and a washcloth or a stylish bath caddy can make creative packaging that can be used for years to come.

Hobby Gifts

Everyone has some kind of hobby, and that’s what makes this one an all-around hit. A decorative flower pot stuffed with garden gloves, seeds, plant food and a couple of small tools are sure to delight your favorite gardener.

A tool belt loaded with drill bits, a measuring tape, assorted nails, screws and maybe a gift card to a favorite home improvement store will make any handy guy or gal happy.

Adult coloring books are going to make a big hit this holiday season. You can print out some adorable coloring sheets online. Or if you are extra crafty, draw the outline to have your friends color in! Buy a big box of color pencils or gel pens to separate out and attach to the coloring sheets to make several Christmas gifts!

Despite the common conception, DIY gifts don’t have to be corny, cheap and useless. With a little imagination, DIY gifts can be useful, meaningful and just plain fun, thoughtfully created for each person on your list.
