Did you know that November 7th was National Bison Day? If you didn’t now you know. What is Bison you ask? Great question
Bison also commonly known as the American buffalo, is a North American species of bison that once roamed the grasslands of North America in massive herds. A bison has a shaggy, long, dark brown winter coat, and a lighter weight, lighter brown summer coat. As is typical in ungulates, the male bison are slightly larger than the female and, in some cases, can be considerably heavier.
So where do we get Bison from in Atlanta? Ted’s Montana Grill of course. I love love love their burgers and it’s an extra special treat when I get to indulge in their bison burgers. The hubs and I desperately needed a date and we rarely get to go out at night so we decided to switch things up and go on a lunch date while we had a quick babysitter. As always if you get the chance to find someone to watch your kids for a few hrs..and I do mean a few…utilize it and go grab a bite to eat. I always recommend getting the burgers….but my hubs decided that this time he would do the bison ribs. I am such a creature of habit that I was curious as to how the ribs tasted. Do you know that he would not let me taste any….I was pissed because from the looks of it that bad boy was so tender and my hubs said and I quote ” It’s so good I gotta save a piece to eat later because I can’t eat all this in one swoop”
But before we get into the ribs and burgers let’s indulge in some appetizers. We love nachos…but Bison Nachos…….lawd hammercy. I don’t eat chilli at all but I sure enough ate these with the chilli. I also ordered half tea and half lemonade…an arnold palmer (spell check?) That lemonade was freshly squeezed. The hubs had a reg lemonade and the way he fixed his face ….I knew it was good.
Next we ordered.
So which one would you eat. The Bison Ribs or the Burger? Does it even matter …nope they both were good.
Benefits of Bison: Bison is the new health food. As demand continues to grow, so has the awareness that bison is best for you compared to other proteins. The only better reason to order bison from our menu is the tremendous flavor.
- Natural: Bison are handled as little as possible. They are never subjected to hormones or steroids. That guarantees that it’s one of the most natural proteins available.
- Nutrient Rich: Bison is higher in iron than any other meat, making it one of the healthiest diet choices you can make.
- Lean: Bison is extremely lean at 2.4 grams of fat per 3.5 oz. of meat. That makes it the leanest protein you can find including beef, pork, chicken and salmon.
- Flavor: Rich, tender and mildly sweeter than beef. That’s the remarkable taste profile of bison, making it ideal for everything from burgers to steaks.
Thank you to the Staff at the Ted’s Montana Grill in Midtown Atlanta. Jeff our waiter was the best waiter we have had this year….I mean that literally. We felt welcomed, he gave us a rundown of what they had and answered our questions before we even asked them. He was awesome! Thank you to Denson for having us.
Because I am a part of No Kid Hungry…I wanted to share what Ted has done to raise money for kids who go hungry.
Ted’s Montana Grill raised $303,303 through its partnership with No Kid Hungry, which is the equivalent of more than 3 million meals for children in need in America. Funds raised through the nonprofits Dine Out for No Kid Hungry initiative exceeded Ted’s Montana Grill¹s 2015 fundraising goal of $300,000.
Dine Out for No Kid Hungry is the largest opportunity for the restaurant industry to unite in support of ending childhood hunger in the U.S. Ted’s Montana Grill guests could participate in the Dine Out fundraiser August 31- October 4 at all 45 locations. Patrons who donated $5 or more received a $5 gift card to use at Ted’s Montana Grill in the future. For every dollar donated, No Kid Hungry can provide 10 nutritious meals to a child in need.
We have passionately supported the No Kid Hungry mission for the past seven years,²said George McKerrow, CEO and co-founder of Ted’s Montana Grill. Our goal is to use our platform in the food service industry to change the fact that 1 in 5 kids cannot count on their next meal.
