Something Old

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,…………did you do this when you got married? This week the challenge is something old. I know you have something around your house that’s old and you just can’t get rid of it. Tell us why and the story behind your item. For my something old I am going to share this chair my mom found on the side of the road.

My mom was a crafter (she has since passed away) she loved thrifting and finding things to rehab. One day around 2001 she saw this old chair sitting on the side of the road. Now it didn’t look at all like this when she got it but she saw potential in it. I wanted to throw the original out so badly but she wouldn’t let me. Right before she passed she got someone to refurbish the chair the person who redid the chair said the original chair was done in the 1960’s.

Today I have this chair in my living room filled with all my stuffed animals. It’s old but it’s something my mom was determined to redo and now I have the pleasure of having it to sit in and enjoy and think of good things.

Join us this week and share your something old using hashtag #mylifesphotos on instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or any other social outlets. We can’t wait to come by and here your stories and see what you just can’t part with.

  • I’ve got a rocking chair that belonged to my grandmother. When my grandfather was moving and getting rid of things, I begged my parents to get that chair for me. So they drove with a rocking chair in the back seat from Pennsylvania to SC and held it for me until I could get it. I never did do anything with it. It’s pushed up in a closet but I can’t get rid of it. If I can get it out of it’s tight space and take a picture, I’ll write the whole story. Thanks for the inspiration. I also participated last week sort of. I have changed all my profile pics with my new selfies. But the particular one I shot that I wanted to share speaks to me in a way I have not been able to grasp yet. The wheels are turning and I’ll share it when I can put all those pieces together.
